What Are the Causes of Discolored Water?
Regardless of where you are, having discolored water coming out of your faucet is never a good sign. However, it is not considered to be particularly harmful to your health. At the very least, it means that it’s flushing out manganese and iron sediment build-up in your pipes. This can be caused by a recent break in your town’s water main. How Can Discolored Water Be Fixed?
Most of the time, just running the water for a few minutes (or even within a few time intervals) will do the trick. If not, then call us because it could be a sign of a more serious problem in your water heater. It may mean that your heater’s pipes need to be replaced, and there’s too much build-up in the pressure valve, and it needs to be drained out or replaced. Until we get to your home or place of business, you may want to consider boiling all of your tap water.
How Can I Prevent Discolored Water Issues?
One way to check your water heater’s temperature and if it’s not already, set it to 150 degree Fahrenheit or slightly lower if you have young children, someone with a mental or emotional disability, or someone who is elderly living with you. If there is in fact, particle build-up in the sediment, use should be avoided whenever possible and you may want to invest in water bottles until we get to your home or place of business. Similarly, you’ll want to avoid using hot water as this prevents build-up in your water heater. Wait for an hour and then try running the water again for another few minutes and also make sure to run the water from all of the other pipes in your home or place of business to ensure that the sediments have completely cleared from your water heater.
