What Are the Precautions to Take When Discovering a Leak in My Home?
It always seems to happen. You are in a hurry to leave the house when you walk towards the front door and you feel a drip on the top of your head.
Naturally, this is not suppose to happen, so you stop and feel the top of your head to see if you just imagined the sense of cold liquid falling onto your head. It happens again and you look up. This is when you notice the small bubbling on the ceiling and a slight drip coming from where there is suppose to be solid ceiling. This is bad, and you know you need to look at it now before leaving. After all, you don’t want to come back to no ceiling at all.
So, you go to the floor above but you are not sure where this leak is coming from, but you know it is obviously coming from somewhere.
Find the Leak
First, if you are not sure where the leak is coming from, you need to turn off the water to the entire house. Yes, you should probably go to the bathroom before you do this, but it can be difficult to know exactly when the water is going to be turned back on. However, once it is off, you need to contact your professional plumber. After all, you don’t know where the leak is coming from but the plumber is more likely to know what is going on.
Contact a Plumbing ProfessionalÂ
After contacting the professional plumber, they can come in and look over the situation. From here, they can determine if they need to remove any flooring or ceiling panels in order to access the damaged pipe. Naturally, this is not something you want to deal with at all, but it is going to be a problem if you don’t.
Once the plumber gains access to the pipe, they might find it is just a pipe that has rusted through over time, or it might be any number of other problems. However, once the plumber is able to see what is going on they can go about correcting the problem. With the plumbing corrected, you then need to go about fixing the ceiling, flooring or wall panel in order to remove any sort of mold and return your house back to normal.
