Challenges of Maintaining A Toilet
When maintaining a toilet in your home, most people hope it will offer few problems. However, no matter how careful someone is with their maintenance, problems almost always develop.
While in some cases it may be a clog that can be taken care of in a few minutes, other times it may result in needing the services of a plumber in order to get things working properly once again.

The Toilet That Runs
When a toilet always sounds as if it’s hissing and never appears to shut off completely, the problem is most often a toilet that is leaking and wasting water.
Often due to a corroded overflow pipe, a broken flush valve assembly, or in most cases a flapper valve that is damaged or worn out, it’s a problem that needs to be fixed as soon as possible. If left un-repaired, the toilet could waste as much as 200 gallons of water per day, leading to unnecessarily high water bills.
Install a New Toilet
If you’ve got a toilet in your home that was made before 1994, you could do yourself and your wallet a favor by installing a newer, more efficient toilet. That’s because pre-1994 toilets use about 3.5 gallons of water each time they are flushed, while post-1994 toilets use only 1.6 gallons of water per flush.
And to demonstrate even more efficiency, some toilets use different amounts of water per flush depending on what is being flushed. For example, some toilets use less than one gallon of water per flush for liquid waste and only 1.6 gallons for solid waste.
In addition to being more efficient and friendly to the environment, it will keep the water bills much lower each month.
Battling the Clogs
While modern toilets are designed to clog very infrequently, it nevertheless does still happen. Most of the time it’s due to poor quality toilet paper being used or attempting to flush items that should not have been put in the toilet bowl to be flushed, but either way the result is the same.
Most clogs manage to happen in the trap or drainpipe, but some make their way to the sewer line. When this happens, a plumber will need to be called to make the needed repairs.
