To get rid of bacteria and grime in the disposal, warm water and soap always work best. Spraying this into the disposal and then scrubbing with a brush will do far more good than any lemon rinds ever could.
Hand Soap is for Hands
While this sounds logical, people often assume it’s also good for cleaning many plumbing fixtures. However, if it’s used on brass fixtures, it severely dulls the finish and does more harm than good.
Using a cleaner designed to enhance brass or other metals works much better, so it’s worth a try. In addition to this, people assume the plumbing system itself needs no maintenance.
However, it’s the smart person who regularly examines, pipes, drains, toilets, and even foundations for signs of anything unusual. If anything is found, it’s best to contact a plumber as soon as possible.
It’s Like Water Down the Drain
Surprisingly, people still cling to the belief that if water is being run down the drain, then anything can be put in the drain without problem. However, as plumbers know, this will only lead to problems. Garbage disposals, despite their name, are made only to grind up certain kinds of foods rather than metal cans, cigarettes, and other trash.
If not used properly, the disposal can be severely damaged and may need replacement. And speaking of drains, constant running water will do nothing to prevent clogs. If the wrong items are put into a drain, a clog is guaranteed.
